The Man Who Would Kill Christmas

For centuries, tyrants and dictators from Pol Pot to Stalin to Lenin have tried to kill Christmas and faith in Jesus. The man who was closest to getting it done hadn’t even heard the name Christmas yet … he just knew he had a problem and killing a baby boy would solve it.

Herod was a man of power and wealth but all that he had was tenuously tied to the consent and dispensation of the Roman rulers. If he didn’t send money to Rome, or couldn’t control his region he’d be out and lose it all. When he heard that there was a “king” born in Bethlehem it shook him.

When God protected the wise men from returning to meet with Herod he was livid. He knew somewhere in that region was possibly a threat to all of his wealth and power, so he made an evil decree that is still alive today in the heart of the enemy, “Kill all the boys.”

So he made an evil decree that is still alive today in the heart of the enemy, “Kill all the boys.”

Killing all the boys is what the enemy is still attempting today. The dysfunction and subterfuge of an ungodly cultural system takes away and tries to destroy the future of boys by destroying the men what would mentor and father them. It is a fight to the finish. It is a fight Jesus came to win.

Christmas reminds us that a war has been joined. And men that want position, power and prestige and possessions are threatened by a king who—rather than seek a throne and rule over men—picked up a towel and washed the feet of his disciples.

Herod could not kill Christmas and neither can the men of evil intent in our world today, nor those that will rule tomorrow. His Kingdom is everlasting. It this “blessed hope” that fills our hearts and our music. He has come to be for us hope, peace, love and good news!

Do not allow the issues and situations you may face today take from you the joy and amazing grace that is present in this season.

Whether you are celebrating the season with intoxicating days of love and laughter, or feeling more keenly a sense of loss, loneliness, or depression—do NOT allow the issues and situations you may face today take from you the joy and amazing grace that is present in this season.

Herod could not stop the promise of Christmas, and nothing in our world today can separate us from that blessed hope. Our Savior has come – Jesus, the King of kings and Lord of lords.

“Neither height nor depth nor any creature…can separate me from the love of God.” Romans 8:38-39
